I actually got to watch the Draft this year! Whoo!!! Props to the people I'm house sitting for. And the Pittsburgh Penguins first round pick: Joseph Morrow. I decided this was a prime research opportunity. For instance, what shows up when you google Joseph Morrow?
1. A recent high school graduate football star from Mississippi. Committed to play at Mississippi State in the fall. A wide receiver hailing from Ocean Springs, MS (Ocean? Really? I knew you were backward, Mississippi.), Mr. Morrow is 6'5" and weighs 200 lbs and totally glares at you in the picture on yahoo sports.
I certainly don't wanna face him on a football field. Because I would otherwise venture onto a football field. Obviously.
2. A now 61 year old murderer who plead no contest in the murder of his wife in 1991, convicted in 2009. Cheery. He's from San Mateo, Cali. and from the comments posted on the story, he was creepy hard-ass. Not that you should believe everything you find on the internet. :D I refuse to put his picture up here. Even if I could find it.
3. St. Joseph's Morrow Park Catholic school. In Toronto. Speaking of which, I loled pretty hard at the Brian Burke interview during the draft. He gets this stony look and the guy asking the question digs for more information and he laughs at Brian's answer. Who doesn't. Crack. A. Smile. Lots of love for Mr. Burke. (To be clear, I didn't think much about him before, you know, being in Toronto and all, but then I heard about his son. Super sad. But I was super impressed with how he originally dealt with Brendan coming out and the things he had to say. It, along with Sean Avery's current support, gives me hope that there are good, open-minded people in professional hockey. If only everyone thought that way.)
4. Dr. Joseph Morrow, who won the International Dissemination of Behavioral Analysis Award. He received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology in 1965 from Washington State University. If you can understand what the hell his award is for, more power to you. Also, I'm surprised you're reading a hockey blog. Because I'm a smart girl, and I can talk about Freud and Pavlov and abnormal psychology and a number of other things sometimes there are more big words then my poor, tired brain can handle at once.
I think that's enough. Onto the real Joseph Morrow (because obviously, the hockey player is the only real one) who hails from Alberta. (One more! There's a Joseph Morrow who plays in the West Australian Football League. Not American football. And he's a cutie.) I'm currently looking at the NHL.com Draft prospect card for him. I love the questions they ask. It's like...give us fun facts for fan girls (like me, who like knowing useless facts). For instance, it tells us the important things like that his favorite movie is "Inception" and he likes to eat eggs benedict for breakfast and his favorite superhero is Superman. And he plays Call of Duty, so he'll fit in with the Pens just fine (you teenagers, you!). Also, his hair at the Draft was much improved over the picture on the website. A plus for his reference to his "old farmer's strength" in his prospect video.
Coolio. First round done. Unfortunately, I'll be unable to watch tomorrow. Habitat for Humanity and a WEDDING! (Excited, much?) I'm going to attempt to catch a bit in between, but I don't have high hopes. It's ok. It's highly unlikely anyone the Penguins draft this year is going to see professional playing time, let alone NHL playing time. One thing that I'm a little disappointed about? Brandon Saad. I was hoping, for the sake of such a perfect storyline, he'd get drafted by the Pens. It's looking unlikely.
A few notes on transactions: Setoguchi to Minnesota??? Boo. Boo. Boo. I quite like Seto in San Jose.
It was kind of awesome when I saw he signed a contract extension. No offense, Wild.
Also, Philadelphia. Whoa frickin nelly! Slow it down a little, huh? Not that I object to you getting rid of Carter or Richards. I do however object to the signing of Bryz. Now how am I supposed to like him? He's going to be wearing this hideous orange color in goal! It's a damn shame. (Though, I understand that career wise, it's a good move.) I am going to take this opportunity to most likely develop nice feelings toward Richards. Unless he steals too much of Jack Johnson's spotlight in L.A. Which should be impossible. Seeing as he's JMFJ. Possibly my favorite Ann Arborism. I should probably stop there. Or I'll go all girly about how awesome his and Sid's friendship is. (It's beyond adorable.)

The Final Stretch...
So I've been a little out of commission, what with basking in the end of Olympic hockey and getting a wisdom tooth out. And now we're entering the final stretch of regular season hockey. I'm pretty damn excited. :D Umm...first of all. Congrats USA on a hard fought silver medal! So awesome. Ryan Miller is a stud. Like no joke. The man worked his ass off and I'm proud that he's an American goalie. (So are a lot of other people I suppose, i.e. did anyone else see the reactions of the Penguins fans to the visiting goalie last week?? Classy. Extremely so.)
So, in the midst of all the craziness, the trade deadline came and went. I'll be honest. I hit refresh on my computer all day Wednesday while I was hopped up on codeine. Quality. I'd just like to say: I adore Luca Caputi! Good luck with the Leafs. He will finally be seeing a lot of NHL ice time. Mostly because um, he now plays for the Leafs. Need I say more? In spite of that, I hope he does super well and becomes a superstar. Except when he's playing the Penguins.
I realize we also lost Skoula and a draft pick and some college kid. I'm just not as sad about those. I am, however, very excited about what we GOT! At first I was like...eh, I dunno. But really, how can you not like someone who scores nicely and is nicknamed "Pony?" Really? How can you NOT? Also, Jordan Leopold is pretty sweet. He's seeming to spend some time on the PK, and I think it's cuz his name is Jordan. Which means he's cool. And I love our penalty killers.
I'm ending this week on a pretty positive note, which is great, because the Pens are 4 and 0 coming back from the Olympic break!!!! That's right! (Now, MAF, feel better and have Sidster practice on you for a couple hours so you're less rusty and we'll be even more excited.)
Jordan update: 66 games, 44 pts, +18
Consecutive career games including playoffs: 360. Baller. Such a stud. 605 more games to go to top the NHL record. :P

Yes, Jordan, we all want some of that for you. So keep on being the amazing giant you are.
